soul care for
social change.

The Peace Pursuit advocates for socially conscious "self-care", or "soul care" as expanded on in Rachel Rickett's book, Do Better: Spiritual Activism for Fighting and Healing from White Supremacy.

Caring for our wellbeing is the first step towards creating sustainable, positive change on the individual, institutional, and systemic levels. The collective healing of our world begins with our own, and what better way to find healing than through the practice of unity and liberation: Yoga.

The teachings of yoga are some of the most revolutionary in the world. They were at the root of Gandhi’s revolution, and philosophies of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.

So why do we diminish yoga's purpose to serve as just an exercise?

What transformative practices are we missing out on that support our liberation from some of our most destructive individual and collective dilemmas?

When we honour & embody yoga's roots and teachings such as unity, compassion, and self-awareness as our daily soul care practices, we gift ourselves the opportunity of walking a path of personal peace and lasting social change.

Story of The Peace Pursuit

Hi! I'm KJ, founder of The Peace Pursuit.

I was someone who wanted to help others and the planet, yet I wasn't even helping myself.

Studying and working within nonprofits, I saw so many fall into that pattern—only resulting in burnout, resentment, and mental health challenges. Since then, my mission was to advocate for being the change we wish to see in the world.

And that starts from within.

I encourage others to care for their well-being with inwards practices to be able to show up and advocate for change.

It wasn't until years later that I learned the practices I was "preaching" are part of an entire system: Yoga.

That's why it's also my mission to share these practices in ways that honour its Indian roots and minimize any further erasure and appropriation of its culture. So many of us are exposed to a diluted, colonized version of this ancient practice—something that has happened to many traditional wellness practices from Indigenous peoples.

I am on a lifelong path of unlearning the ways oppressive symptoms have caused me to harm myself and others, so I may remember the ways in which our ancestors harmoniously cared for themselves and the planet, and put them into practice.

I've supported myself through burnout, grief, anxiety, depression and trauma (complimented by other healing methodologies) using yogic practices.

By sharing these tools with the purpose of yoga at the forefront—to liberate humanity from suffering—I know a better world is possible.
